To continue transportation access across Lancaster County, South Central Transit Authority (SCTA) is initiating a Microtransit Feasibility Study to guide the implementation of a vision and plan for access, growth, and future transportation options for residents and visitors of the county. Microtransit is a shared transportation service that uses technology to offer flexible, on-demand transportation options. It’s a middle ground between traditional public transit and ride-hailing services. This study will complement and build upon the underway Strategic Plan and the recently completed Transit Development Plan (TDP) to create an actionable plan for implementing microtransit. Microtransit has the potential to complement existing and planned fixed-route services operated by Red Rose Transit Authority (RRTA) and the shared-ride service provided by Red Rose Access. Furthermore, it can be part of a plan for achieving performance targets and an efficient return of transit ridership. Kimley-Horn has been hired to lead the consultant team to complete the study. The study is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025.
Community engagement is essential to creating an effective microtransit system, and your participation can make a big difference! As a resident, you have the best insight into how transportation needs evolve in your neighborhood. By blending your valuable input with data-driven analysis, we can identify the most critical transit needs together.
In the coming months, the project team will offer several opportunities for Lancaster County residents to provide input on the study. Join us at an upcoming event to share your insights and help shape the future of transportation in Lancaster County.
