Eligibility and Scheduling Information

Red Rose Access Services

Red Rose Access provides transportation to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

An application must be filled out to be approved for Red Rose Access services. To receive an application please call Red Rose Access at (717) 291-1243.

Transportation is generally available from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., with limited evening and weekend service available for some programs.

Senior Citizen Program
If you are a Senior Citizen, age 65 or older who lives or travels more than a 1/4 mile from an existing RRTA bus route or have a disability which prevents you from using regular RRTA bus service, you are eligible for Red Rose Access. Eligible passengers pay 15% of the fare, while the remainder is funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery.

Medical Assistance Transportation Program (MATP)
If you receive Medical Assistance from the Department of Welfare, you may be eligible for transportation to medical appointments on Red Rose Access.  Passengers who receive medical assistance and are able to ride RRTA buses are eligible for fare reimbursement when they ride to medical appointments on the regular RRTA bus system.

Medical Assistance Transportation Application

Office of Aging of Lancaster County
Office of Aging of Lancaster County also funds transportation for eligible persons, age 60 and older to travel to area senior centers and medical appointments. For more information about this service, please call the Office of Aging of Lancaster County at (717) 299-7979.

Human Service Agencies
Over 40 human service agencies sponsor transportation for their clients with Red Rose Access. Please check with your local agency representative or call Red Rose Access at 291-1243 for more information on agency sponsorships.

Scheduling Your Trip

Once your application for your shared ride service is approved by RRTA, you will be authorized to use Red Rose Access services. If your eligibility is being determined by a participating social service agency, they will forward an authorization to RRTA. This authorization will provide RRTA with the appropriate information to allow services to be provided.

Trip reservations may be made by calling Red Rose Access at 291-1243 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; and 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Trips must be scheduled at least one day in advance. RRTA provides over 1,200 shared ride trips each weekday. The advance reservation is necessary to coordinate all services to ensure the trips are provided in a timely and efficient manner.

Trips may be scheduled up to 14 days in advance. Recurring trips may also be scheduled on a "standing order" basis. A "standing order" would allow your trip to be automatically scheduled each week without further notice to RRTA.

Your Red Rose Access vehicle may arrive up to 15 minutes before or 15 minutes after your scheduled pick-up. We ask that you be ready early and wait at the exact address used when scheduling your trip. The driver may only wait 5 minutes for you. Your promptness and consideration for other customers is greatly appreciated.

General Service Policies

Personal Care Attendants
We realize that due to medical reasons, some of our passengers need to travel with a personal care attendant. Contact Red Rose Access at (717) 291-1243 for information on receiving approval for an attendant.

Other companions may be scheduled to ride with you, but may be charged a fare for their ride.

Cancellations and No Shows
We understand that sometimes circumstances occur which prevent you from using your trip. If you are unable to cancel your trip or wave the driver on, it may be necessary for RRTA to charge you for a "no show". Please call and cancel your trip at least one hour before your scheduled pick-up.

Guide Service Animals
Guide service animals are welcome on our vehicles. For the comfort of other passengers and for health reasons, we cannot allow pets on vehicles.

If you use Red Rose Access for shopping trips, please bring no more than 4 grocery bags aboard the vehicle. And if you need assistance, our drivers will gladly lend you a hand within reason. Drivers may not enter your residence to provide assistance for security reasons.
